We are not talking about your usual system
sounds here. A (DSI), "Desktop Sound Interface" is a new and very powerful
tool for the desktop computer user. A DSI encompasses a much wider range
of sound and prompts, as well as uses both voice and sequential tone frequencies
to alert the user to various system events and actions. The general purpose
of the DSI is to alert user to important keystrokes, program operations
and commands. This is achieved using voice response prompts and sequential audio
frequencies implemented for maximum sensory interactivity and response.

The general concept, creation and building of a DSI is to plug in sounds and voice responses to as many system and program events as possible. This is to establish true sensory interactivity with each important keystroke and program operation. This internal sound event structure can range anywhere from 20 – 100 or more system event sound responses. Internally there are three DSI levels of operation, each covering a specific branch of system events. Through these various levels, the DSI integrates understanding, comprehension, and aids in learning, creativity, enjoyment and productivity.
LEVEL 1: CORE: System events, alerts. i.e.: start, shut down, windows & screens, menus etc.
LEVEL 2 – MID: Extended system programs i.e.: utilities, virus, fax, internet, network, ftp etc.
LEVEL 3 – HIGH: All external program applications that contain sound events, i.e.: word processors, database, accounting, personal information managers, calendars, etc.

Sound plays a key role in the perception of reality as a reference point of cognitive awareness and comprehension. Just as a good soundtrack brings out and highlights aspects of a film or multimedia presentation, sound is used to accent points of interest, text, and to set the mood or emotional tone. An excellent support component, sound can affect the emotions and punctuate main elements. Sound also can be a powerful tool in integration of human-machine relationships. Regarding the DSI voice commands, they create an enhanced level of communication between the user and the computer. Whereas, the sequential chord-arp and pulse tone frequencies versus musical phrases in the DSI are to stimulate create an increased mental alert response.
